Why Does He Hate Me
Chapter I: Things Change
Ever since Sasuke and Sakura started dating, my days have become dull.
Sakura is always in a good mood when she sees me. And Sasuke, he doesn-t even talk to me anymore. Its like I don-t even exist. I call him names that usually would piss him off but now he just glances at me for a second and walks off. It sucks, really.
I looked up, seeing Sakura approach me. I stood up beside the sakura tree I had been lying under. Her cheerful expression bugged the hell out of me. It should be me that makes her laugh or smile. But no, she chose that bastard over me.
"Er...hello, Sakura." I forced a smile onto my face that seemed to fool Sakura at the moment.
"Hi, Naruto! I was just wondering if you-d like to accompany me to lunch with Sasuke." Unlike mine, her smile reached her eyes. Before she added "with Sasuke", I had been eager and happy that she wanted to go with me.
"Er...I dunno, Sakura." I sighed.
"Come on, Naruto! You never hang out with us anymore." she told me.
Nope. She had it wrong. They were the ones too busy to hang out with me. "And two months ago, me not hanging out with you two was what you had wanted..." I muttered.
"Na-ru-to!!!" She said in a slightly annoyed voice.
"Ugh, fine. I-ll go. When are you two-"
"Now!" She caught my hand and pulled me away from the sakura tree I had been leaning on. Soon, we ended up at a small restaurant where Sasuke was already waiting at a table set for three. He didn-t look happy to see me. I frowned as I saw his cold black eyes glaring up at me.
As I sat down, I muttered, "It-s nice to see you too, bastard."
He still didn-t say anything. "Come on, Sasuke! I thought you two were friends. At least try to be nice!" Sakura demanded.
Sasuke closed his eyes for a moment, sighing, before opening them again and saying, "Hello, Naruto." his eyes showed no emotions towards me.
I prevented myself from saying anything profound and offensive, though I only accomplished saying, "Hey, Sasuke", in the end.
After that, both Sasuke and I ended up talking only when Sakura told us something. I avoided looking up, afraid he-d look at me as if I was a monster. I hated that look. To me, it meant that I was lower than he is. That there was something really wrong with me. Through out the whole meal, I was planning different excuses that would let me out of the hell hole Sasuke was creating for me.
"Excuse me, you two, I have to go to the bathroom." Sakura told us. I tried to smile up at her to let her know that everything would be alright between Sasuke and me.
Once she disappeared from sight, I blurted out, "Bastard..."
"Dobe." He said in response.
"...why...why do you hate me so much? It-s like you-re a completely different person. You don-t even like Sakura. How does that change over night?"
He didn-t answer me. Not a surprise. I rolled my eyes, getting up quickly to leave. He grabbed my arm. "Dobe, sit down." He told me calmly.
"I-m not going to listen to you." I snapped. "Everything you say is bullshit. You-re so full of shit."
He ignored my comment and said, "At least stay for Sakura-s sake. She wants us to be friends again."
"Oh. And I-m sure you-ve really helped to make that happen, am I right?" I glared at him. He just looked up at me. "Fine! I-ll stay-"
"What? Naruto, you were going to leave?" Sakura was back.
"No." I said a little too quickly. "No, I was just saying that I-ll stay good friends with Sasuke here!" I lied.
"Yay!" She exclaimed, hugging Sasuke happily. "Lets go to the park!"
I almost groaned. Almost.
She took both me and Sasuke by the arm as we exited the restaurant. I stumbled toward the park. Sakura had not let go of my arm and was now hugging Sasuke and my arms as she walked. I looked over to Sasuke who didn-t seem to be enjoying it either. Finally, I escaped from her grip and left Sasuke to endure more of her torture. He sent me a glare as I walked behind the two. I just smirked back at him and shoved my hands into my pockets. Finally, Sakura got Sasuke-s attention back and talked endlessly of the pair of shoes that she just "had to have".
It quickly became boring to me and I stopped pretending to listen. I gazed across the park to the playground area where little kids played in the sand box, slid down the slide, among other things. The child that caught my attention though, was the little boy standing alone, shyly, watching as the others played. I guess the reason why that kid in particular caught my eye was that I used to be exactly the same way he was.
Sasuke and Sakura had stopped in front of me suddenly, making me run into the Uchiha from behind.
"It-s getting late. We should start heading back home." Sakura told us.
In my mind, I began to celebrate and I guessed Sasuke was doing the same thing though his expression did not express his relief.
"Would you like me to walk you home, Sakura?" Sasuke asked.
"That-s alright. My house is really close to the park. I-ll be fine." she smiled.
"-Kay, then. See ya, Sakura." I waved and watched her begin to leave. Then, I turned and left for my apartment.
As the sky darkened even more so than before, I arrived at the apartment complex where I lived. Once I reached my door, I found that I had forgotten my key. Again. I yelled in anger, pounding on my door.
The door across the hall opened and a slightly annoyed looking Uchiha came out and walked toward me with a key. My key. He shoved it into my hand. "Dobe." he muttered before going back to his apartment, slamming the door behind him.
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that Sasuke and his brother, Itachi, have conveniently lived across from me for three years.
